3:00 – 4:30 PM: Promoting Religious Tolerance

Three speakers (15 minutes each + 5-minute Q&A) will share how their faith encourages inclusion and religious tolerance. We welcome practicing members from various religious backgrounds—not necessarily clergy or scholars, but individuals sharing personal perspectives.

  • Islamic Perspective – 3:00–3:20 PM: Presented by Samir and Aisa Softic (Samir Softic, MD, will discuss growing up exposed to two contrasting perspectives on religion and peace. One view sees religion as a source of hope and a driving force for positive change. It inspires people to do good for the sake of goodness itself, believing this is the path to salvation. The other view regards religion as a divisive tool—acknowledging that more human lives have been lost in the name of God than for any other cause. While the latter perspective may more accurately reflect certain aspects of human nature, the former offers hope for a better tomorrow. Aisa Softic, MS, will share personal experiences that demonstrate this hopeful view is not a utopian ideal but a living reality in our everyday lives. Good-natured people surround us, but we must be active participants in letting them into our world.)

  • Latter-day Saint Perspective – 3:20–3:40 PM: Mark Motley, MBA (A member of the Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints will share an overview of his faith, highlighting the considerable common ground between Islam and Latter-day Saint beliefs. The presentation will explore shared values including faith in God, reverence for Abraham and prophets, commitment to prayer and fasting, emphasis on family, and service to others.)

  • Jewish Perspective – 3:40–4:00 PM: Aaron and Chandani Kemper, Esq (Attorney Aaron Kemper will share insights from a lawsuit challenging Kentucky laws that define a fertilized egg as a human being, laws rooted in evangelical Christianity that conflict with Jewish beliefs and many other faith traditions. This case highlights how reproductive laws can violate religious freedom, and calls on all communities committed to religious tolerance to join the fight for pluralism and dignity in policymaking.)

  • Open Discussion – 4:00–4:30 PM

To volunteer as a speaker, please email [email protected].

4:30 – 5:00 PM: Introduction to SFF
